
Director & Division Chief, Biotechnology & Life Sciences
Dr. Paulien Roos is the Division Chief of the Biotechnology and Life Sciences Division at CFD Research Corporation, where she helps guide the division’s strategic direction and priorities. In this role, she focuses on strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration to develop impactful technologies that support both warfighters and the broader population.
Dr. Roos joined CFD Research in 2015 as a Senior Research Scientist and has progressed into leadership through her work in translational research. Her team has developed technologies including VestRx, Human Digital Twin initiatives, and the Blast Overpressure (BOP) tool. She continues to collaborate closely with stakeholders such as clinicians, patients, and military personnel to ensure technology development remains grounded in real-world needs.
Before joining CFD Research, Dr. Roos began her career in academia, holding postdoctoral positions at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom and the University of Texas at Austin, followed by an academic appointment at the University of Cardiff in Wales within the multidisciplinary Arthritis Research UK Biomechanics and Bioengineering Center. Her early research focused on the biomechanics of trips and falls in older adults and included extensive collaboration with physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons.
Dr. Roos earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Biology with a specialization in Mathematical Biology from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, and her Ph.D. from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications.
