SUMMARY:2020 Hypersonic Technology & Systems Conference
DESCRIPTION:Sustained hypersonic flight within dense atmosphere has substantial utility. Advances in underlying technologies and integration into weapon systems offer the DoD significant enhancements in its ability to penetrate heavily defended areas and prosecute time-critical targets. Other nations are also actively pursuing these technologies; as such\, defense against such systems is also of increased interest. The technologies required to enable the reliable use of hypersonic vehicles are multi-disciplinary. Some of these technologies that HTSC focuses on include:\nThermal Protection & Management Systems Propulsion\nAerodynamics & Aerothermodynamics\nNavigation\, Guidance and Control\nProgrammatic Review\nDefense Against Hypersonic Systems\nDetecting & Tracking Hypersonic Objects\nSensing in a Hypersonic Environment\nGround Test Facilities and Instrumentation\nSystems Engineering\, Architecture\, Analysis & Design\nFlight Testing\nKill Chain\, Mission Planning & C4ISR\nWeapons Effects & Lethality\nHTSC’s emphasis is on systems and applied technology. This conference highlights the nation’s investments in systems integrated hypersonic technologies for both research and development and weapon platform integration for offense and defense. It brings together the best and brightest involved in the development and use of hypersonic technologies in a unique\, limited-attendance forum which will facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration opportunities.

SUMMARY:Leveraging AI in Environmental Sciences Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The workshop will build on the success of the 1st Workshop on Leveraging AI. This workshop will help gather scientists\, program managers\, and leaders from public\, academic and private sectors. It will enable experts involved in the development and adaptation of AI tools and applications in a number of fields to meet and exchange experiences. \nIt is important to note that there are fields with similar fundamental issues as the field of environmental science. These fundamental issues include image and signal processing\, pattern recognition\, morphing\, projection mapping\, data mining\, clustering\, etc. This will facilitate the cross-fertilization of knowledge in different communities within NOAA and outside of NOAA to benefit in environmental science. \nThis gathering will allow participants to exchange ideas\, share lessons learned\, and to discuss both the future potential and limitations of AI. It will also help to establish collaborations for using AI tools for many purposes\, including: \n\nReviewing AI-enabling technology and tools\nFurthering scientific objectives of better utilization of Earth observation\nSharing ideas to improve environmental science\nImproving efficiency of environmental data processing and exploitation for cost effectiveness\nIdentifying innovative ways to use satellite data and other environmental data to create new products and services and generate new markets\nExpanding commercial markets of high-level environment-related products and services to benefit society and the economy
